Anders crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday, July 28, 2025. He had been with us for an incredible 16 years and 7 months.

Anders was known for his friendliness and was always eager to greet anyone who came through our door. A constant cuddle-bug, he was often found nestled beside someone on the couch and often already ready for bed.

He loved to bask in the warmth of the fireplace, soak up the sun by the back door, claim a spot in the middle of the bed, and generally make the home office his own.

He responded to many different nicknames, most often Buddy or Bud. Others included:

His full name was Lt. Samuel T. Anders from Battlestar Galactica.

Beth adopted Anders and his littermate Chihiro in February 2009. They were originally named Cedar and Poppy.

In March 2020, Anders was diagnosed with diabetes. He responded remarkably well to treatment and thankfully went into remission in August 2023. Sadly, in 2025, his health declined with diagnoses of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and T cell gastrointestinal lymphoma. He bravely battled these illnesses until his final days.

We would like to thank Dr. Galen Groff and the team at Chuckanut Feline Center for their help with his health, Dr. Brad Day at Larrabee Animal Medicine for performing a detailed ultrasound, and Drs. Juli K. Murphy and Jill E. York at Cedar Grove Veterinary Housecalls for their end-of-life services.

Anders is survived by his littermate sister Chihiro, his adoptive sister Rayla, and his adoptive human parents Beth and Jeffrey.

You will always be missed, Buddy. 💔

Sayings About Anders

Anders (aka Bud, aka Buddy, and countless other nicknames) crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday, July 28, at 16 and a half years old.

Our home feels so much emptier without him. He had the biggest heart always seeking affection, always ready for a cuddle, never understanding the idea of personal space.

He loved food, especially treats, and he never missed a chance to beg for more. He was diagnosed with diabetes in March 2020 and, like the strong boy he was, went into remission in August 2023.

He is survived by his littermate Chihiro and his adopted sister Rayla. We miss him deeply. He gave us so much love, and we'll carry that with us always.

Love you forever, Lt. Samuel T. Anders (yes, that was his full name). 💔

Anders was such a good sweet boy and loved snuggles. He was always licking everybody. And one time, when all the cats snuck treats while the humans were away, Rayla and Chihiro were ashamed and hiding when we walked in the door, while Anders was in his usual spot, like "hey guys!"
